Architectural visualisation is undergoing a fundamental shift. Once a tool for representing design, it now operates across film, gaming, branding and immersive environments — shaping not just how architecture is seen, but how it is understood and valued. Parallax frames this as a disciplinary transformation.
Despite its growing influence, visualisation remains under-theorised. This book addresses that gap by asking: what is architectural visualisation today, and what is it becoming?
Through 14 in-depth interviews with leading global practitioners, Parallax examines how visualisation is practised, how its boundaries are expanding, and how it is emerging as a form of design enquiry. The book identifies four key modes of practice — storytelling, architectural essence, immersive environments and critical experimentation — through which contemporary visualisation engages with broader cultural, technological and social questions.
Co-authored by Dr Paul Loh — architect, academic and researcher — and Andrei Dolnikov, founder of BINYAN and a leader in architectural visualisation and digital storytelling, the book brings together academic and industry perspectives on a field in transition.
The essays presented here are previews of this larger work. Parallax, due for publication in mid-2026, maps an emerging discipline—one that is reshaping how architecture is imagined, experienced and realised.
